Abstract:

PURPOSE: The title composition having improved tensile strength, heat and tear resistance, and gas permeability, prepared by adding a hydroxy mercaptan compound to ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer in crosslinking with an organic peroxide or radiation.

CONSTITUTION: (C) 0.05W5 parts by wt. of a hydroxy mercaptan of formula I (R1, R2, R3, and R4 are H, alkyl, alkenyl, or aryl groups), e.g. a compound selected from formulas IIWVIII, is added to stabilize (A) ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer in crosslinking with (a) 0.1W1 parts by wt. of an organic peroxide e.g. dicumyl peroxide, or (b) radiation at 130W200°C.
