Abstract:
PURPOSE: To excavate a tunnel of small width with a high degree of accuracy by providing a guide mechanism to an excavator in the case where the tunnel of small width connected to an excavated tunnel with large width is excavated.
CONSTITUTION: The excavator 11 is formed out of an excavator main body 14 and a cutter devoce amd, at the same time, lower guide mechanism 16, intermediate guide mechanism provided in the excavated direction at an interval and upper guide mechanisms 18 are provided around the peripheral surface of the excavator main body 14. Guide plates 16b, 17b and 18c opposed to wall surfaces and expansion members 16a, 17c, 17d, 18c and 18d are provided to the guide mechanisms. After that, a tunnel with large width is continuously excavated by gravity due to dead weight of the excavator 11 as driving force in the excavating direction, and after a tunnel with small width is excavated in the ground, expansion members 18e and 18d of the upper guide mechanisms 18 are contracted, and the tunnel with small width is excavated further up to a specific depth by the cutter device 15 in accordance with the lower guide mechanisms 16.
