To provide an exchange table setting method that prevents the occurrence of cell loss in the case of setting revision of an exchange table during communication and re-sets the exchange table, while normally maintaining cell exchange.

The exchange table 200 consists of an LUT 210, that stores an information storage location by each exchange-type information and an ITT 220, that stores output destination channel information corresponding to the exchange-type information. In response to a received setting revision request during communication, after a revision destination entry area has been reserved in the ITT 220, entry information of a revision object is read from a revision source entry area of the LUT 210 and revision processing is applied to the information; and the entry information subjected to the revision processing is copied to a revision destination entry area. Then an access pointer, switched over from 'from the LUT 210 to the ITT 220' to 'from a point (P1), corresponding to the source entry area to a point (P2) corresponding to a destination entry area' and the entry information in the revision source entry area, is deleted.
