In this exhaust brake device, a control unit 34 incorporated with a computer controls an intake throttle valve 20 arranged in an intake passage 16 in a multistage shape or continuously, by referring to a control map of setting opening corresponding to the exhaust pressure, with a pressure signal from a pressure sensor 32 detecting the exhaust pressure (p) on its exhaust upstream side as a parameter, when an exhaust brake valve 28 arranged in an exhaust passage 24 is closed. Here, while substantially constant first opening is set in the control map in an area where the exhaust pressure is less than a predetermined value, since second opening of gradually reducing from the first opening in response to an increase in the exhaust pressure is set in an area where the exhaust pressure is the predetermined value or more, the inconvenience in a high speed rotation area of an engine 10 can be prevented while securing the operational feeling of the exhaust brake device in a low-medium speed rotation area of the engine 10.
