PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily eliminate ashes from a filter by providing pressure changing means by which pressure on the upstream or downstream side of the filter in an exhaust passage is rapidly changed when it is judged that the regeneration of the filter is completed by which particulate scavenged is burnt.
SOLUTION: When each filter 5 is regenerated, particulate scavenged in each filter 5 is burnt by heat of exhaust gas, however, calcium, an oxide of phosphate, a sulfide or the like in the particulate may not be burnt, but deposited in each filter 5 as ashes. Then, when an engine speed is increased to some extent and a particulate scavenging amount in each filter 5 is gradually decreased and becomes a predetermined amount or below, a first control valve 4a is opened and closed, thereby pressure on the downstream side of each filter 5 in an exhaust passage 3 is rapidly changed, so that an exhaust gas amount passed through each filter 5 is rapidly changed. Hereby, ashes in each filter 5 are separated by the sudden changes of pressure difference and a flow and delivered to a downstream side.
