Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently purify the exhaust emission by effectively applying these functions when providing a NOx trap catalyst 11 and a HC trap catalyst 12 in an exhaust emission passage 8.
SOLUTION: The NOx trap tolerance limit of the NOx trap catalyst 11 is calculated by detecting the carrier temperature of the NOx trap catalyst 11 and the NO trap amount. The HC trap tolerance limit of the HC trap amount are calculated by detecting the carrier temperature of the HC trap catalyst 12 and the HC trap amount. The emission amount of NOx and the emission amount of HC from the engine are controlled in relation of the trade-off by controlling the fuel injection timing or EGR ratio, based on the NOx tolerance limit and the HC trap tolerance limit.
