To provide an exhaust gas purifying catalyst excellent in the purification capacity for carbon monoxide even under a low temperature condition.
The exhaust gas purifying catalyst includes a base material 54, a lower layer 60 arranged on the base material 54 and an upper layer 62 arranged on the lower layer 60. The lower layer 60 has a carrier 64 and Pd particles 66 and Pt particles 68 supported on the carrier 64 as noble metals. Further, the upper layer 62 has the carrier 64, the Pd particles 66 supported on the carrier 64 as the noble metals and a hydrocarbon adsorbing material 70. In this exhaust gas purifying catalyst, the HC poisoning of the catalyst is suppressed and the purification capacity for carbon monoxide under the low temperature condition is enhanced.
