To provide an exhaust gas purifying device which reduces exhaust emission by changing an arrangement of a plurality of catalysts at engine starting, heats and activates the catalysts early.

The catalysts for purifying the exhaust gas are provided in each exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine. The exhaust gas purifying device is provided with a first exhaust passage communicating each exhaust passage at upstream side of one of the catalysts and communicating at the upstream side of the other of the catalysts, a second exhaust passage communicating with the downstream side of one of the catalysts and communicating with the other catalyst, a first change-over valve for changing over the exhaust passage at the downstream side of the catalysts, and a change-over control means for change-over controlling the second change-over valve corresponding to the running state of the internal combustion engine.
