PURPOSE: To easily convert exhaust gas into reductive atmosphere without adding a reductive substance producing material by connecting the exhaust gas outlet opening of reductive component producing part consisting of zinc carried on the surface of carrier with the exhaust gas inlet opening of the catalyst for purification of nitrogen oxide.
CONSTITUTION: In the exhaust gas purifying device of a diesel engine, etc., the sulfuric acid generated in an oxidation catalyst 1 is supplied to the reduction component producing part 3, and the sulfuric acid reacts with the zinc carried by the carrier of reduction component producing part 3 to generate hydrogen which makes the exhaust gas into reductive atmosphere. The exhaust gas containing the hydrogen is supplied to the exhaust gas inlet opening 5 of the nitrogen oxide catalyst 2 for purification, which effectively reduces the nitrogen oxide contained in the exhaust gas in a low temp. range because of a thin oxygen state so that the purification treatment is carried out.
