Abstract:

PURPOSE: To enhance combustion in a vacuum melting furnace and to prevent generation of dust and smoke by regulating the proportion of the oxidizing agent to exothermic agent of an exothermic feeding compound obtd. by mixing an exothermic agent, oxidizing agent and aggregate to value within a specified range of the theoretical value of the ratio of the oxidizing agent to the exothermic agent.

CONSTITUTION: The exothermic feeding compound comprises Al, Si, or an Si alloy, e.g. CaSi, FeSi, ≤1 kind among oxidizing agent selected from Fe2O3, MnO2, and NiO, and aggregate contg. Al2O3, forming a granular or pellet mixture. The ratio of the oxidizing agent to the exothermic agent is regulated to 0.5W1.2 of the theoretical value of the ratio of the oxidizing agent to the exothermic agent. Graphite may be added to improve the heat insulating effect. Granulation may be attained by the conventional method, and pelletization may be performed with a pelletizer by adding bentonite or kaolin.
