Abstract:
To obtain expandable polystyrene bead polymers by a simple preparation method which contain recycled polystyrene and are low in the inner water content and capable of being processed to foams having a uniform cell structure free of inconvenient fine cells and good mechanical properties.
Expandable polystyrene polymers contain recycled polystyrene in an amount of up to 40 wt.% based on the total weight of the polystyrene, and are obtained by dissolving the recycled material in monomeric styrene, polymerizing the resulting solution in an aqueous suspension, and adding a finely divided polyethylene wax or a molecular weight regulator to the styrene polymer in the course of polymerization.
