PURPOSE: To increase the safety and the corrosion-resisting performance of a picture tube, and simplify the manufacturing process of the picture tube by providing a film, which has a corrosion-resisting characteristic and is resistant to heat at a given temperature, on either the entire surface of an annular rim band or a surface of said rim band which is exposed to the external atmosphere.

CONSTITUTION: An annular rim band 16 consists of a cold-rolled steel plate 7, an electroplated compound zinc layer 8 containing a heavy metal, and a heat-resistant corrosion-resistant film 19 which is formed over the compound layer 8 by either spraying a zinc-phosphate-system formation treatment solution on the surface of the layer 8 or using an ultraviolet-ray lamp after the surface of the layer 8 is coated with an ultraviolet-ray-hardened resin by a roller coat method. By the means mentioned above, a high safety and an excellent corrosion-resistant characteristic which are no inferior to those of the conventional picture tube which is subjected to anticorrosive treatment after undergoing shrink fit work, can be realized.
