Abstract:
To provide an eyepiece optical system that prevents the occurrence of ghost and is advantageous in that it does not interfere with the nose of an observer.SOLUTION: An eyepiece optical system includes a phase plate, a lens, and a polarization separation element, and guides light from an image display element to an exit pupil. The eyepiece optical system has a diagonal display viewing angle of 60 degrees or more. The lens is a resin lens that is circular when seen from an optical axis direction. The outer diameter of the lens, the distance between the eyepiece optical system and the eyeballs of an observer, and the half value of the diagonal display viewing angle are appropriately set.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
