To obtain a woven fabric of flat yarn which is inexpensive, exhibits high strength characteristics, obviates such disadvantages as occurrence of voids, and is useful for fiber composite materials, etc., by using a specific flat yarn made of carbon fiber as the warp and the weft and weaving under specific conditions.
This woven fabric is fabricated by using thick and twistless flat yarn of carbon fiber comprising 3000 to 24000 single yarns as the warp Twr and the weft Twf. When woven, the warp Twr and the weft Twf are twistless and free of torsion, maintain their flat state and yet are arranged at an inter-yarn space which is substantially equal to the thread width. The flat yarn of carbon fiber is very thin with a flatness of 30 to 80. Preferably, the density of carbon fiber in the woven fabric is substantially uniform throughout the fabric.
