PURPOSE: To control a machine by measuring the position of tools directly on the feed shaft without using any gear train to accurately position the tool.
CONSTITUTION: A motor 9 turns a face plate 5. A motor 16 drives a slider 7 to reciprocate in the radial direction through a lead screw 12 so that a work 6 is cut. A resolver 10 detects the position of the slider 7, e.g. the turning of the lead screw 12, and sends signals to a separate control unit through a rotary transformer 17. The control unit feeds-back signals corresponding to the signals sent by the resolver 10, thus the position of the tool is numerically controlled. The detection of the tool position by the present invention is accurate as the tool position is detected by the turning of the lead shaft and not affected by the backlash of a gear train.
