The face recognition device 1 includes: a camera 2; a driver monitor ECU 3, a preventive security ECU 4; and a navigation ECU 5. The current position of a vehicle carrying the face recognition device 1 is input from the navigation ECU 5 to the driver monitor ECU 3. The driver monitor ECU 3 includes a storage unit 7, which stores regional information 71 indicating ranges into which a region is divided and a regional template 72 which is a template of average faces in the region corresponding to the regional information 71. Also, the driver monitor ECU 3 includes a selection unit 31 and a recognition unit 32 as functional units of a microcomputer 30. The selection unit 31 selects the regional information 71 and the regional template 72 that correspond to the current position. The regional template 72 includes information about eye position, mouth position, face size, face color, a threshold value for binarizing the face image taken by the camera 2, and the imaging requirements of the camera 2.
