Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily extract only characters from a three-color publishment in which the characters expressed in a first color are printed while overlapping printed patterns expressed in second and third colors.
CONSTITUTION: A CPU 11 calculates parameters for density conversion based on the RGB values of the background color of a material to be read and of the first and second printed patterns to be erased which are inputted through a data input circuit 12. The calculated parameters are preliminarily written in a look-up table circuit 15, and the image signals collected from the material to be read are converted into a gradation image in which only the characters are extracted in accordance with the parameters. Then the obtained image is converted into a binary image in a binarization circuit 16 to be outputted.
