To restrain remaining cold iron source which has not been melted in a melting chamber from a preheating chamber when the melting is completed in a last heat, in the case of melting the cold iron source using an arc-melting facility having a shaft-type preheating chamber directly connected with the upper part of the melting chamber.
This arc-melting facility 1 is provided with the melting chamber 3 for melting the cold iron source 18, the shaft type preheating chamber 2 for preheating the cold iron source with exhaust gas generated in the melting chamber, electrodes 6, 7 for generating the arc for melting the cold iron source, a cold iron source supplying means 17 for supplying the cold iron source into the preheating chamber and a molten iron tapping hole 15 for tapping the molten iron 19. The side wall of the melting chamber at the lower part of the preheating chamber is vertical or has a tapered shape widened toward the lower part from the molten iron surface when a prescribed quantity of the molten iron is stored in the melting chamber over to the upper part side. Further, a pusher 11 and a heating means 12 or a bottom-down nozzle 13, are provided.
