PURPOSE: To improve the operability of a system by calling a called telephone number of the operator and allowing a synthesizer to apply retransmission request message through the provision of the voice synthesizer even when a received picture has an error to relieve the load of the operator.

CONSTITUTION: A scanner 1 reads a transmitted original in a facsimile commucication system, the read picture signal is stored temporarily in a buffer 3, its picture signal is outputted to a plotter 2 and recorded. Further, a coder/decoder circuit 4 enchodes a transmission picture signal, copies a received picture signal, sets a high-speed MODEM of a low-speed MODEM in MODEMs 5 and a network control circuit 6 controls a telephone line network. Each device of the system is controlled by a microprocessor unit 9. The voice synthesizer 8 is provided between the unit 9 and the circuit 6 and a memory 10 storing the telephone number of the operator is connected to the unit 9. If a received picture has an error, the telephone number of the operator is called, the device 8 applies retransmisson request message to relieve the load of the operator.
