PURPOSE: To prevent an automatic dial transmitter from executing the erroneous discrimination of the communication system of a receiver by permitting a facsimile equipment to execute a processing at the time of detecting a CNG signal, a processing at the time of detecting a signal excepting the CNG signal and a processing when nothing is detected in a prescribed time.

CONSTITUTION: When the facsimile is automatically started by a telephone call signal and the CNG signal arrives from an opposite calling side, it is detected, and in case facsimile receiving action without transmitting a voice answer, for example, an action shifting to CED signal transmission is executed, or in case nothing arrives from the opposite calling side, the voice answer is transmitted after a previously decided time passes, and then the facsimile receiving action is executed. In case voices such as 'Hello' and the like arrives from the opposite calling side within the previously decided time, the voice answer is transmitted and an effect that this side is connected with the facsimile terminal is transmitted. Thus, an error in the communication system on the side of a transmitter is prevented and time shortening is attained.
