PURPOSE: To detect abnormal running to all the running modes, by outputting a running failure signal, when the running mode is discriminated and no pulse is outputted from a reel rotating detector within a time set accordingly.

CONSTITUTION: A running mode discriminator 1 discriminates the mode with a running mode signal at a terminal 2. A timer operation circuit 3 sets and the operating time of a count circuit 4 for operation. The operating time can be determined in advance. A return signal is inputted to the count circuit 4 from a count return circuit 6 with a pulse from a rotation detector 5 and the circuit 4 returns to zero. In normal running, a pulse is generated within the set operating time according to the mode, the return signal is outputted and no detection signal is outputted. In case of abnormal operation, no pulse is obtained within the operating time and no return signal is outputted, then a signal is outputted from a detection circuit 7 after the counting is completed.
