PURPOSE: To simply and quickly recognize the state of a failure such as location of the failure and size and shape, by recording the picture of a region of a failure if the presence of the failure is detected.

CONSTITUTION: An object 1 to be checkdd is stepped with a carrier, the 1st pickup region (a) is picked up with being aligned to an ITV camera 2 and an obtained video signal is supplied for the detection of a failure with an inspection device main body 3. If a failure such as crack is present, a failure detection signal is generated and the region (a) is recorded on a film with a pickup device 4. The failure detection is made for each pickup region and when the failure is detected, the pickup region with the failure is picked up with the pickup device 4 at each occasion.
