PURPOSE: To obtain a felt turning roll which is light in weight and is capable of handling a tail as well at the time of threading by fitting a static shaft having a bore communicating with a negative pressure source in a specific state into one end of a hollow roll shell having many suction holes.

CONSTITUTION: The roll shell 16 having many suction holes 36 is rotatably supported by means of bearings 26 and the static shaft 10 relatively short in length is fitted into the one end of the roll shell. The bore thereof is connected to the negative pressure source 64. The internal spaces of the bore and the roll shell are communicated by an opening 38 and the communicating state with other portions is regulated by seals 30 and 42 and a valve 45.
