A primary engaging part 50 engaging a lance is formed by folding back what has been extruded from a front rim of a ceiling plate 25 constituting a main body 21. A back-folder 55 of the primary engaging part 50 is rounded. Because a female terminal fitting 20 is inserted into a cavity while the rounded back-folder 55 touches the lance, resistance is small and low inserting force is realized. The primary engaging part 50 is so mounted as to float from the ceiling plate 25 by way of a tapped out supporter 51, so that an engaging room toward the lance is large. A tapered surface 53 is formed on a corner of a lance engaging surface 52 on a near side to the ceiling plate 25. Consequently, a top end of the lance functions as breaking into inside the tapered surface 53, and surely prevents the lance from slipping on and escaping from the lance engaging surface 52.
