Title:
FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTAL ELEMENT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH04258924
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To suppress the transfer of liquid crystal molecules within a cell at the time of driving liquid crystals and to improve display quality by varying the pretilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules in picture elements and the pretilt angle between the picture elements. CONSTITUTION:A lower substrate is formed by the procedures of forming a Ta2O6, film 12 on ITO patterns 11, then applying a polyimide oriented film 13 by a spinner thereon and baking the film, then forming further resist patterns joined with the ITO patterns 11 on the polyimide oriented film 13. These patterns are formed for the purpose of treating only the parts between the picture elements in the direction parallel with a rubbing direction, by which the picture element parts are protected with the resist film. The surfaces of such resists are strongly rubbed and thereafter, the resists are peeled and the picture elements are weakly rubbed in the same direction as the direction between the picture elements after washing and drying. While the strongly rubbed parts have about 10 deg. pretilt angles, the weakly rubbed parts have 18 deg. pretilt angle.
