Title:
FIBER REINFORCED COMPOSITE USING CONTROLLED FIBER WITH FINE STRUCTURE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3401551
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lightweight composite material excellent in strength and toughness without changing its composition by reinforcing a metal by the use of respective pitch-based carbon fibers of radial structure, onion structure, or random structure, respectively.
SOLUTION: Metals (Al, Ti, etc.), are reinforced by mixing by using respective pitch-based carbon fibers of radial structure (a structure where the carbon hexagonal net plane of a carbon fiber takes a radiate form with respect to the central axis of the fiber), onion structure (a structure where the carbon hexagonal net plane of a carbon fiber takes a concentrically circular form with respect to the central axis of the fiber), or random structure (a structure where the carbon hexagonal net plane of a carbon fiber takes a random form with respect to the central axis), respectively, or, metals are reinforced by mixing by using a carbon fiber where the crystal size of graphite crystallites is regulated to 7 to 18 nm Lc and to 0.340 to 0.345 nm d002 or an amorphous SiC fiber containing the thrid elements, such as Ti and Zr, for inhibiting coarsening of crystal, respectively. Further, an infiltration process, an HIP process, a pressing process, etc., are used for reinforcing of the fiber and the metal by mixing.
