Title:
FIBER-REINFORCED PLASTIC
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3670414
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the epoxy groups of an epoxy sizing agent for reinforced fibers from reacting with and deactivating the catalyst in an RIM nylon when the nylon is reaction-injection-molded by adhering a specified metal compound to the surface of the sizing agent.
SOLUTION: Reinforcing fibers 2 surface-treated with an epoxy sizing agent 4 are immersed in an alcoholic metal alkoxide solution 6 to adhere the metal alkoxide 5 to the surface of the agent 4. The reinforced fibers 2 are inserted into the cavity of a mold for reaction injection molding and heated to react the epoxy groups with the metal alkoxide to open the epoxy rings and to form a metal compound which does not interfere with the polymerization of the nylon. RIM nylon is then poured into the cavity 7a and polymerized into a solid product.
