Abstract:

To obtain a fiber-reinforced silicon nitride sintered compact which controls the reaction of the reinforcing fibers with oxygen and inhibits the deterioration in the strength of the reinforcing fibers due to the sintering.

This fiber-reinforced silicon nitride sintered compact 10 comprises silicon nitride particles 2, an oxynitride particle boundary phase 4 containing silicon 3, a silicon nitride layer 5, and reinforcing fibers 6. The oxynitride particle boundary phase 4 comprises a crystal phase containing MnSiN2, at least one element 13 of aluminum(Al), yttrium(Y), and silicon(Si), and an amorphous phase 14 containing manganese(Mn), oxygen(O), and nitrogen(N).
