PURPOSE: To obtain the titled fiber, consisting of a sheath-core type conjugate fiber containing a core component of a high-melting polyester and a sheath component of a low-melting polyester and capable of providing molded products with excellent tensile strength and Izod impact strength and useful for molding polymer composite materials.
CONSTITUTION: The aimed fiber consisting of a sheath-core type conjugate fiber containing a core component of a polyester having ≥230°C and a core component of a low-melting polyester having 90W200°C melting point. Furthermore, a polyethylene terephthalate is preferred as the polymer of the core component. A polyester copolymer, prepared by copolymerizing isophthalic acid component in an amount of 20W50mol.% based on the total acid component, having 1.48W1.76 relative viscosity and containing 0.5W3.0wt.% diethylene glycol component is preferred as the polymer of the sheath component.
