To obtain moisture-absorbing and permeating fiber structure which is flexible and excellent in wet film strength by forming crosslinked protein- coated layer mainly comprising a protein and another polymer soluble in the common solvent to the protein on the surface of a fiber structure.
A protein such as gelatin and a water-soluble modified polyamide which is soluble in the same solvent as for the protein, for example, water in an amount of 10-100wt.% based on the gelatin, and in addition, a long chain epoxy crosslinking agent are formulated to prepare the objective coating solution. A fiber structure, for example, nylon twill-woven and dyed cloth treated with water-repelling agent is coated with the coating solution on its surface, dried, and heat-treated thereby forming crosslinked protein-coated film mainly comprising gelatin and water-soluble modified nylon on the surface of the fiber structure.
