To produce a fibrous material having excellent deodorant properties and soft to touch feeling by introducing free carboxyl groups into a fibrous material and then applying a treating liquid containing a polyamine and/or a hydrazide compound and a synthetic resin binder to the fibrous material.
This fibrous material is produced by introducing ≥5×10-5 equiv./g.fiber free carboxyl groups substituted with at least one metallic ion selected from the group of zinc, copper, nickel, manganese, silver and iron into the interior of a polyamide-based or a polyester-based fibrous material by a graft polymerization, then applying a treating liquid containing a polyvinyl amine represented by the formula (R is CHO or CH3CO), preferably an aromatic polyamine such as xylenediamine and/or a hydrazide compound having ≥2 hydrazino groups such as adipic acid hydrazide and a urethane-based resin binder to the fibrous material according to a padding method, then heat-treating the resultant fibrous material and fixing the polyamine and/or hydrazide compound thereto.
