This filling apparatus injects a material to be filled which is stored in a hopper into the filling pipe unit 14 via a passage switch valve and extrudes the material from the inside of the pipe unit into a filling nozzle via the passage switch valve for filling a predetermined container. The filling pipe unit includes a sliding head 30 capable of reciprocating in slide contact inside a filling pipe 25. The sliding head is structured to suck the material into the filling pipe or to extrude the material to the filling nozzle by its reciprocating movement. In the filling apparatus, the filling pipe in the filling pipe unit includes a large diameter pipe part 35 and a small diameter pipe part 36, wherein the small diameter part is provided toward the tip in the direction of extruding the material from the filling pipe.
