To accurately correct image blurring even at the joint part of motion picture film.
When the motion picture film 1 intermittently fed is stopped, it is irradiated with light from a light source 15 through a shutter 16 and the light is transmitted corresponding to an image recorded thereon. Then, the transmitted light is made incident on a CCD camera 9 through an optical axis correction device 8. Plural sensors 11 and 12 for detecting the position of the film 1 are provided at different positions at a gate part 5. Output from the sensors 11 and 12 is supplied to a position detection circuit 13 and the position of the film 1 is detected by using at least either output from the sensor 11 or 12. Based on the detected result, the optical axis L of the light transmitted through the film 1 is corrected so as to reduce the image blurring caused by the positional deviation of the film 1 by the device 8.
