Abstract:

To obtain a filter material enhanced in the degradability of cellulose acetate fibers in the presence of water, and imparted with the collapsibility of the fiber shape of the filter material and in the collapsibility of the shape of the cigarette filter, and to obtain the cigarette filter using the same.

This filter material comprises cellulose acetate tows containing 5-50wt.% of a hydroxyalkylcellulose, a polyalkylene glycol, a glycerol fatty acid ester or an alkylene glycol fatty acid ester which are water-soluble compounds and/or water-dispersible compounds soluble in the solvents for cellulose acetate but noncompatible with the cellulose acetate.
