Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter for molten Al, capable of removing inclusions existing in the molten Al prepared by melting Al scrap, particularly fine inclusions of about 10-25μm.
SOLUTION: This filter is composed of aggregate made of refractory and is used for removing nonmetallic inclusions from the molten Al containing the inclusions. A surface layer part composed of a compound having a melting point at which softening or making viscous is brought about by the temp. of the molten Al is formed on the surface of the aggregate, and the above inclusions are collected by the surface layer part. It is preferable to use, as the surface layer part, a material having 660-1100°C melting point, and, for example, one kind selected from the group consisting of MnO2,, Bi2O3, NaO.B2 O3, MgBr2, NaBr, Na2CO3, CrCl2, KCl, NaCl, SrCl2, Na3AIF6, AlK(SO4)2, and K2SO4 or a mixture of two or more kinds among them is recommended.
