PURPOSE: To obtain electric wires and cables with high fire resistance and processibility by adding dimethylsiloxane which works as a fire retarding agent and as a lubricating agent to an intermediate layer.
CONSTITUTION: A cable is prepared using halogen-free materials for all of the insulated wires, an intermediate layer, and a sheath. An insulator formed on the outside of the conductive wire is coated with an intermediate layer consisting of polyolefin, metal hydroxide, and hydroxy-terminated dimethylsiloxane having melt viscosity 1×105-5×109 c-poise at 23°C in a ratio of 100 pts.wt., 100-500 pts.wt., and 1-50 pts.wt., respectively. Further, a halogen- free flame retarding sheath layer consisting of polyolefin and metal hydroxide in a ratio of 100 pts.wt. and 50-250 pts.wt., respectively is formed on the intermediate layer. In this way, a flame-resistant insulated cable having good mechanical property, extrusion processibility, and high flame retarding property is obtained and the cable does not generate harmful halogen-based gases.
