To prevent expansion of damage to an upper floor through a hoistway of an elevator when a fire occurs, and to easily use the elevator as a refuge passage.

A storing part 5 is disposed above a getting on and off place 2 of the elevator 1, and a fire-resistance screen 6 is stored in the storing part 5. When a fire occurs, the fire-resistance screen 6 is drawn out of the storing part 5 and lowered. By the lowered fire-resistance screen 6, the hoistway 13 of the elevator 1 and the getting on and off place 2 are divided to intercept a getting on and off port 3 of the elevator 1. The fire-resistance screen 6 is provided with a refuge opening and closing door enabling a person to easily pass it.
