PURPOSE: To completely separate and remove contaminants, especially lump fibers from a web fed to a fixed comb plate.

CONSTITUTION: A fixed comb plate is provided with comb needles 14, and the needles are fixed on a plate 4 and protruded from the plate at the vicinity of the edges 4.1 of the plate 4. Within the section of a free mounting length of comb needles 14 near the edges 4.1 of the plate 4, spaces between comb needles 14 are covered with a fiber guiding member consisting of a rubber elastic material. While split in the combing machine, the fibers of a web F are pulled toward a working cylinder 5 passing through the comb needles from a cotton sending line W on a lower tong plate 7 and somewhat pushed down, and their direction is changed. The web F can be easily compressed. Thus, pollutants and lump fibers can be removed well from the web F.
