PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of preventing the surface temperature of a fixing roller from becoming excessively high or low and obtaining excellent fixing performance at all times even in the case of abutting an external heating member on the surface of the fixing roller and heating the surface of the fixing roller by the external heating member.
SOLUTION: This fixing device is provided with the fixing roller provided with a heating source in the inside, a pressurizing member to be in press contact with the fixing roller, the external heating member for heating the surface of the fixing roller from the outside, an attaching and detaching means for abutting or separating the external heating member on/from the surface of the fixing roller and a control means for controlling the timing of abutting the external heating member on the surface of the fixing roller corresponding to at least one of the surface temperature of the external heating member and/or the fixing roller, the kind of a transfer medium to receive a fixing processing and an image forming mode to the transfer medium.
