To provide a fixing unit capable of widely adapting to variation in thickness or kind of a sheet to which an image is fixed or variation in environment and also preventing an occurrence of peeling failure or fixing failure in a simple configuration and to provide the image forming apparatus using the fixing unit.
The fixing unit comprises: a fixing member 52 for heating and a fixing member 53 for pressing which are formed in an endless belt state at one end and rotated while being brought into pressure-contact with each other; a pressing member 64 having a fixing contribution part 64a and a peeling contribution part 64b which form a pressure-contact region between the fixing member for heating and the fixing member for pressing by bringing one fixing member formed in an endless belt state into pressure-contact with the other fixing member; and a pressure-contact contribution ratio varying means varying the contribution ratio when the fixing contribution part and the peeling contribution part of the pressing member are brought into pressure-contact with the other fixing member.
