PURPOSE: To prepare a rubber composition giving rubber materials useful for covering of electrical cable and wire, etc., and having excellent flame retardancy and radiation resistance, by compounding a hydrocarbon rubber with a functional halogen-containing flame retardant, a polymerization initiator, a vulcanizing agent, etc.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A hydrocarbon rubber (e.g. ethylene-propylene rubber, etc.) is compound with (B) a functional halogen-containing flame retardant having polymerizable groups (e.g. styryl group, acrylic group, etc.) [e.g. bis(acryloylethyl) tribromophenyl phosphate, etc.], (C) a hydroperoxide polymerization initiator (e.g. t-butylhydroperoxide, etc.) and (D) a vulcanizing agent (e.g. sulfur, etc.). 100 Parts by weight of (A) is compounded with 5W60 parts by weight of (B), 0.2W10 parts by weight of (C) and an effective amount of (D).
