Abstract:
A vacuum envelope (10) of a flat display device comprises a rear substrate (11) and a front substrate (12), located opposite to each other, and a seal portion (13) which seals together respective peripheral edge portions of the front substrate (12) and the rear substrate (11). A reinforcing portion (20) has a core member (22) harder than the sealing material (13) and is provided outside at least a part of the seal portion (13). With use of the reinforcing portion (20), external force that acts on the peripheral edge portions of the substrates can be received by the reinforcing portion (20), so that external force that acts on the seal portion (13) can be reduced considerably. If any external force is applied, therefore, the seal portion (13) can be prevented from being dislocated or lowered in sealing properties.
