Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce bending moment acting on a cross member by providing a fragile part having a nearly triangular notch in the vicinity of the side sill of the cross member, and providing the joint point of a side sill brace with a side sill outer at a lower part than the floor height. SOLUTION: A nearly triangular fragile part 4d constituted of a member 4b and the like is provided in the vicinity of the side sill 2 of a cross member 4. The joint point 5c of a side sill outer with a brace 5 is positioned lower than the fragile part 4d. By side collision, bending moment M1 is generated in a center pillar 1, and a load F2 is transmitted around the floor. Because the joint point 5c exists lower than the fragile part 4d, the side sill 2 is deformed in nearly parallel with the vehicle width direction. The load F2 and bending moment M3 generated due to it act on the cross member 4a. As deformation of a vehicle body is progresed, the member 4b is crashed from the extreme end, hence the input point of the load F2 transmitted to the member 4a is moved downward, and the bending moment M3 is reduced.
