Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generator for an air bag of simple structure giving the least possible shock to an occupant in an initial stage of operation and then rapidly increasing gas pressure so as to positively protect the occupant.
SOLUTION: A single ignition means actuated by impact and gas generating agents 6 ignited by the ignition means to burn and generate combustion gas, are accommodated in a housing 3 with a gas exhaust port to constitute a gas generator for an air bag. A combustion chamber where the gas generating agents 6 burn is provided in the housing 3, and a space part 100 of specified volume in which no gas generating agents 6 exists is secured in the combustion chamber. When the gas generating agents 6 are ignited to burn. The combustion volume of the gas generating agents 6 is enlarged to the space part 100.
