Abstract:

PURPOSE: To keep high charging efficiency and restrict generation of knocking by closing the ON/OFF-valve in the branched passage which connects the inlet passage part to the swirl-terminating part of the captioned port, when knocking is detected.

CONSTITUTION: The inlet passage part A in a helical-type intake port 6 and the terminating part of the swirl part B which is connected to the inlet passage part A and formed around an intake valve are connected through the branched part 14, which is opened and closed by a rotary valve 18. Said rotary valve 18 is ON/OFF-controlled by controlling a step motor 33 by means of an electronic control unit 50. Said unit 50 receives each output of a potentiometer 38, negative-pressure sensor 42, revolution sensor 44, and a knocking sensor 43, and when the knocking sensor 43 generates the output proportional to the vibration of the engine itself, and said output increases more than the standard voltage 46, generation of knocking is discriminated, and the valve 18 is closed.
