To provide a fluid sample collection device suitable for real-time quantitative analysis which includes a sealing element slidably movable over at least a portion of a planar surface and removing excess fluid from a sample inlet in order to seal a fluid in a holding chamber and to prevent the fluid from prematurely breaking through a capillary stop, and to provide a blood collection method.
The fluid sample collection device is configured to include a housing having the sample inlet which is in fluid communication with a blood sample holding chamber bounded by an internal capillary stop, and has a bubble-free inlet characterized in that two or more drops of blood forms a consecutive segment in the blood sample holding chamber. The blood sample holding chamber is coated with a liquid reaction mixture containing at least in part a compound selected from a group consisting of a water-soluble protein, a polymer containing a hydroxyl group, an amino acid, sugars or a salt.
