PURPOSE: To simplify soldering and cutting actions and automate the fitting of a getter by arranging getter materials on a metal tape continuously at a uniform distance.

CONSTITUTION: A tape getter 1 is buried with getter materials 2 at a uniform distance on metal tapes 1aW1c respectively. When this getter is to be fitted, a grid 13 and a filament 14 are arranged on an anode substrate 12 forming a display segment 11, and the wound getter 1 is set at the getter fitting section of an automatic filament welder. After the filament is automatically welded, the getter 1 delivered through an automatic feeding port is set at a holding section 4 and positioned at the desired position by a positioning jig 5, and the necessary number of getters are spot-welded by a welding holder 6. Then, the getters 1 are out at marks 3 by a cutter section.
