Abstract:

To provide a new component usable for a nematic, cholesteric or chiral-smectic liquid crystal mixture, and having a combination of high absolute value of dielectric anisotropy and preferable ratio of the viscosity to the clearing point.

The compound is represented by formula (I). The liquid crystal mixture contains the compound. Concretely, the compound is exemplified by 3,4,5-trifluoro-6-methoxy-2-propylphenanthrene.
