PURPOSE: To provide a process for fluorinating an organic substance in an inert liquid medium.

CONSTITUTION: A process for producing a fluorinated organic substance is provided which comprises the steps of: (A), providing a reaction system comprising a tubular reactor 38 and a means for transporting a fluid through the reactor; (B) transporting a fluid stream containing an organic feed 17 capable of being fluorinated and an inert liquid medium through the tubular reactor; (C) introducing (22) a fluorine gas into the fluid stream of B in an organic feed/ fluorine ratio sufficient to achieve a chemical reaction between them; and (D), fluorinating the organic feed under turbulent conditions for a time sufficient to yield a fluorinated product.
