Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new fluorine-containing biphenyl liquid crystal compound having a stable liquid crystal phase, useful as a material for displays, etc., and capable of being produced from easily raw materials in a high yield in simple operations.
SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [Rf1, Rf2 are each a 1-5C perfluoroalkyl, Rf1 and Rf2 may be combined with each other directly or through O or N to form a heterocyclic ring together with N; (n) is 1, 2]. For example,4- methoxy-4'-[perfluoro(dimethylaminoethano)oxy]biphenyl. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (X is a halogen) with 4-hydroxy-4'-methoxybiphenyl.
